Background

Conwy County Council is responsible for promoting tourism in the area, ranging from accommodation and restaurants through to events and attractions.

The local authority required a new website to complement their printed marketing materials and Imaginet has been working with them for around 5 years on their website. The most recent enhancements include a re-brand and the development of a touchscreen kiosk solution for Colwyn Bay and Llandudno tourist information centres.

Solution

The website makes effective use of colour and beautiful imagery in the design to promote the area effectively and to improve the site architecture.  Other key features include:

  • A site wide CMS allows Conwy CC to add content to the site at any time, with a range of databases such as Accommodation, Attractions, Events and Shopping to present information in a standard format. The databases also mean that visitors can search for an item using drop-down search boxes improving the user experience
  • The Destinations section uses a database to present information on the various towns and villages in the County. This content is integrated with the Google Maps API to take advantage of web 2.0 interactivity and offer users a simple method of finding a place to visit
  • The individual accommodation, attractions and event pages also integrates the Google Maps API to highlight the exact location of the place
  • Visitors can download brochures of the area from the site and can sign up to receive newsletters containing special offers

Touchscreen kiosk solution

The touchscreen kiosk solution takes content from the main website and automatically pulls it into a touchscreen interface reducing the resources required to manage them.  Imaginet created a beautiful interface that reflects the branding on the website, but is designed for Computer Human Interaction, so has large, prominent buttons to press. The Google Maps interface is used again within interface so that visitors who are already in the area can see where places of interest are on a clear map.

Imaginet sourced a through-window kiosk for Colwyn Bay to offer 24 hour access to information and are sourcing a second indoor kiosk for Llandudno.
